1. Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice (1969)
Married couple Bob and Carol are changed through group therapy. They think feelings need to be felt and not intellectualized. Sexual tension builds between them and their close friends Ted and Alice. This is a bit more of a swingers film, but it does raise poly questions.
2. Loving Molly (1974)
In this Sidney Lumet directed film that spans nearly forty years, two Texas farm boys with opposite personalities fight over beautiful and headstrong Molly, who refuses to marry either of them.
3. Summer Lover (1982)
Daryl Hannah stars a one-half of an American couple who vacation in the Greek Islands. When she discovers her husband has met and begun an affair with a French woman she confronts her. The three become closer than you might expect.
4. A Change of Seasons (1980)
A marriage changes direction when the middle-aged man falls for a younger woman and the wife then finds a sexy younger lover of her own.
5. She’s Gotta Have It (1986)
Spike Lee’s first full feature-length movie. Nola, a young, attractive, independent woman in Brooklyn juggles three men: the polite and naive Jamie; the egotistical model Greer; and the immature bicycle courier Mars. The men don’t want to share, but Nola refuses to commit, enjoying her freedom.
6. The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)
In 1968, a Czech doctor with an active sex life meets a woman who seeks monogamy. The Soviet invasion disrupts their lives further.
7. Enemies: A Love Story (1989)
Anjelica Houston and Lena Olin star in this tale of a ghostwiter who finds himself romantically involved with his current wife, a married woman, and his long-vanished wife.
8. French Twist (1995)
After a woman learns of her husband’s cheating ways, she invites a transient lesbian into their home. Their lives will never be the same.
9. Henry and June (1990)
Based on real life of experiences of writers Henry Miller and Anais Nin. Set in Paris in 1931, Nin explores her sexuality with her husband Hugo, Miller and his wife June, and others.
10. The Object of my affection (1998)
Jennifer Aniston plays a pregnant New York social worker who develops romantic feelings for her gay bestie, thus annoying her dominating boyfriend.
11. Splendor (1999)
Veronica, a young woman reinvigorates her non-existent dating life with two guys: a struggling writer and a drummer. She hides the relationships from one another initially, but after they find out they all move in together. All is well until a third man enters the picture.
