PolyCon: Claiming Our Right to Love

POLYAMORISTS UNITE!
(in Vancouver, British Columbia for Polycon)

I don’t know if you heard the news, but there’s a polyamory convention happening in B.C. right now, and the conservative right is in an uproar about it. Natch. But fuck ’em! Cause you can’t stop Big Love from growing bigger, and some people in the world are finding bigger, better, and bolder ways to love each other than the traditional paths they were taught by their parents. Peep this article for “Polycon 2013”, published in the National Post recently:

“‘I’m happier when I’m with several people’: Polyamorists prepare for B.C. convention”

“Sessions at Polycon, as it is billed, focus on legal issues, networking, managing jealousy, “poly-feminism,” and a report based on interviews with both new and more experienced attendees of a polyamorous “sauna night” at a Toronto home.”

(Hey, I go to that ‘Sauna Night’, woo-hoo!)

But yeah, the idea of having a bunch of polyamorists, polygamists, polygynists, and monogamous allies getting together to discuss the future of their lives and their impact in society as it stands is absolutely brilliant, and NECESSARY. Especially in the sexually conservative, minimally erotic culture of Canada. This conference sounds like it needs to expand across Canada, and land in Toronto to do the same wonderful work it is doing out in British Columbia!

As the article writer Jospeh Brean writes in the National Post, he paraphrases CPAA (Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Association) Zoe Duff: “Gay and lesbian advocates have “done some good trailblazing,” on the marriage question, Ms. Duff said, but for now the poly movement has set the question of legalized multiple marriage “on the back burner” as practically hopeless. “We’ve got a long way to go before people are going to say, ‘Let them get married,’” Ms. Duff said. “I haven’t personally even thought about it, because it’s not an option… As a long term thing, I can see a desire to have the right to marry.”

Well, before anybody gets married, how about you just go to the conference and check it out? Let us know how awesome it is, and then… come to Sauna Night and share the goodies you have in your heart with us, ha ha!

The Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Association is pleased to present:
